Zeke the Helpful Zebra

Zeke the Helpful Zebra

In a bright little town near a grassy savanna lived a zebra named Zeke.

Zeke was not the fastest zebra in the fields. He was not the strongest either.

But Zeke had something special. He loved to help.

Every morning, Zeke would put on his little blue cap and walk through the town carrying his long orange hose.

The ducks needed their pond cleaned. The rabbits wanted their burrow entrance washed. Even the birds liked when Zeke gently sprayed water on the dusty leaves.

“Thank you, Zeke!” everyone would say.

And Zeke would smile shyly.

One hot afternoon, the town square became very dusty. The wind had blown sand everywhere.

The benches were dusty. The trees were dusty. Even the playground looked brown instead of green.

The animals gathered and began to complain.

“Oh no!” said the squirrel. “How will we play here now?” said the little fox.

Just then… Clip clop… clip clop…

Zeke walked into the square with his hose.

He looked around and smiled.

“I think I can help,” he said softly.

Zeke turned the handle of the hose.

Whoooosh!

Cool, fresh water sprayed across the dusty ground. Slowly the dust disappeared.

The grass became green again.

The trees sparkled in the sunlight.

The playground looked bright and happy.

Soon the animals were laughing and running again.

“Zeke saved the day!” shouted the duck.

But Zeke just adjusted his little cap and smiled.

“I didn’t save the day,” he said kindly. “I just did a small helpful thing.”

That evening, as the sun set behind the tall grass, the town looked peaceful and clean.

And Zeke walked home happily, knowing that sometimes small help can make a very big difference.

Goodnight Lesson
